Peter Watts' Bio


Peter Watts has been educator for over 31 years and transitioned to his next incarnation after his retirement from teaching in June 2019. Among his accomplishments in the area of environmental education are prairie restorations, annual river clean-ups, annual storm drain stenciling, implementation of the 7,000 square-foot Riverside Middle School Garden (RMSG), as well as other environmental projects in his community. In his spare time he ran a successful school-wide cafeteria recycling program that collected leftover milk, food waste, and milk cartons. Over the course of a few months, Peter’s efforts kept over 3.7 tons of organic waste from landfills as well as recycling over 63,000 milk cartons


Watts has facilitated many dozens of workshops and presentations and served the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers (WSST) for many years chairing the Nominations and Elections and the Convention committees as well as serving as president of WSST and Second Vice President of the Foundations Committee. He has received awards for exemplary science teaching from WSST and the Wisconsin Elementary and Middle Level Science Teachers (WEST) as well as recognition from local environmental groups.  Peter is also honoured to be a Wisconsin Academy Staff Development Initiative Lead teacher, an Earth Science Resource Associate, Siemens STEM Fellow, UW-Madison Nanoscience Fellow, and a NASA/ CIMSS Climate Literacy Ambassador. Mr. Watts has served as his school district’s Science Curriculum Specialist, Seventh grade Team Leader and member of the Building Leadership Team. Over more than three decades Peter has proven to be a successful grant writer having written or consulted in awards totaling over $500,000


Peter is a licensed minister, author of "World Tree: The Metaphysical Journey of a Closet Shaman" and artist - as well as father of two grown children and grandfather of two beautiful grandchildren. He has been married to renowned tarot artist Julie Cuccia-Watts for 34 years
